Foundation Program
Course Description
MAPA® is a behaviour management system that teaches skills for assessing, managing, and responding to risk behaviour. The focus is on verbal de-escalation, prevention, and early intervention. Safe physical intervention options are also taught, to be used only as a last resort.
The programme gives you an effective framework for decision making and problem-solving. You’ll leave the course equipped with the skills and confidence to champion a culture of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security.
Certificates are typically valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

Course Delivery and Assessment Requirements
The training is delivered face-to-face over a full day consisting of seven theory units and one practical unit, whereby participants will be required to demonstrate the use of physical disengagements.
Course topics include.

- Precipitating Factors, Rational Detachment, Integrated Experience

Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations.
Understanding Choice and Control
This training is for support staff working with NDIS Participants.
The training introduces Support Workers to some of the fundamentals of the NDIS, including the human rights framework and important concepts such as ‘person centred care’, ‘dignity of risk’ and ‘informed consent’. It provides strategies to support decision making, as well as how the NDIS Code of Conduct applies to choose and control.

Course Delivery and Assessment Requirements
The training is delivered face-to-face over a half a day the course is done in conjunction with NDIS record keeping essentials.
Course topics include
- Know the underpinning legal and human rights and how to put them into everyday practice
- Know how to support people in a person-centred way
- Know how to support people in a way that enhances and embraces the individual’s values and beliefs
- Respecting dignity of risk
- Know who can and how to support decision-making
- Know your role in supporting people to make complaints List some strategies to increase choice and control
NDIS Record Keeping Essentials
Managers, team leaders and frontline workers all need to ensure participant records and case notes are kept and are ‘audit ready’. This course has been developed with Support Workers in mind and should be undertaken alongside our organisational specific requirements.

Course Delivery and Assessment Requirements
The training is delivered face-to-face over a half a day the course is done in conjunction with Choice and Control.
This course provides an overview of:
- Why record keeping is important.
- Who may access records and for what purposes?
- How record keeping forms part of your audit.
- The foundations of good record keeping.
- The importance of progress notes
- Incident, complaint, and behaviour support reporting considerations
- Documenting decision making
Medication Training
BET Group is committed to ensuring we provide a high-quality service that is responsive to the changing needs of our participants. BET Group will continuously improve practices, procedures and training to ensure that staff have the resources, skills and tools to keep participants safe while respecting their rights to choose and control.
BET Group has signed up to an e-learning platform for all staff training.
Medication Training
BET Group has processes in place to ensure that only appropriately skilled and qualified staff are involved in the administration, storage, and disposal of medications. BET Group achieve this by:
- A new e-learning module (information below)
- BET Group engage RNs to undertake further practical competency-based assessments of your medication administration practices
- BET Group have implemented a Self-Assessment Checklist for staff to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities (attached)
- BET Group will regularly review and implement the Medication Policy and Procedure
Medication training will be implemented with the e-learning program, and you will receive a link via your email linked to your Deputy account.
The following staff are required to complete this program:
- Support Workers
- Senior Support Workers
- Team Leaders
- Coordinators
The program takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, and you will be issued with a Certificate upon receiving 100% in the questionnaire.
This training is required to be completed annually.
Please upload your Certificate to Care Vault by Friday 15 October 2021.
Safe Environments for Children and Young People ‘Through their eyes’
‘Through their eyes’ (Formerly knowns as Child safe environments) has been developed by the Department of Human Services in line with the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and explores child abuse and the legal obligation for mandated notifiers to report suspicion of risk of harm in Children and Young people. This program is suitable for all South Australians not working in an education setting.
Note: this course has superseded the previous ‘Child safe environments’ course any current ‘Child safe environments’ certificates you hold are compatible with the new course.
Topics include:
- child protection in context, values and attitudes
- legislative obligations when working with children and young people (including screening obligations)
- risk and harm — abuse-related trauma
- sexual abuse and online grooming
- responding to disclosures
- child safe environments in organisations
- reporting a reasonable belief of risk and harm.
Safe environments training supports participants to understand types of risk of harm to children and young people, including:
- neglect
- psychological/emotional harm
- domestic violence
- sexual abuse, and
- physical abuse.

NDIS Specific Training
NEW IN 2021
BET Group is committed to ensuring we provide a high-quality service that is responsive to the changing needs of our participants. BET Group will continuously improve practices, procedures and training to ensure that staff have the resources, skills and tools to keep participants safe while respecting their rights to choice and control.
BET Group introduces an e-learning platform for all staff training.
Over the next few months, All BET Group staff will be enrolled into online training modules, and you will be required to complete these and load the certificate to Care Vault. A range of courses will be available, both:
- mandatory training to be completed within specific time periods to maintain your employment; and
- suggested training to develop your skills in your role and develop your understanding of the NDIS system.
- We are committed to promoting from within and we will continue to invest in our staff professional development.
The training below is available for all BET staff at no cost. Training and Development will roll out the modules in South Australia by end of October 2021 and Victoria by December 2021.
